Best blind options for a new home...
Quote from CFenn on July 16, 2020, 5:38 pmAs I mentioned in another post, we moved into our new home a few weeks ago and I'm trying to figure out what to do in all the rooms. My downstairs has a lot of tall windows (9ft ceilings) and our upstairs bedrooms each have two large windows as well. I'm seriously considering blackout curtains for my office but I'm not sure about what to do in the other rooms. To be honest, I'm on a bit of a budget... so, I was wondering what everyone recommends when it comes to blinds. I've never purchased any kind of window treatments before because every other home we've lived in already had them. Is there a particular brand that generally stands out - but is affordable?

Quote from BrianB on July 17, 2020, 12:32 amIf you're looking for affordable, I would probably recommend going with horizontal blinds instead. I find they're cheaper and do a good enough job.
As for brand, I don't really know for sure. I don't tend to look at the brand, which probably isn't a good thing, but I don't need anything spectacular. As long as it does what it's intended to do, and lasts a long enough time, I'm good with it.

Quote from kolithad on August 9, 2020, 5:02 pmThings to consider when buying blinds or shades
- Light and Privacy (Decide whether you want your room bright and airy or more "buttoned up" and cozy.)
- Your budget: Are you outfitting just one window or the entire house? You may consider spending more on certain windows and scaling back on others.
- Safety : If you have kids, opt for cordless styles, since accidental strangulation is a top concern
- Cleaning : Blinds don't need professional cleaning, but they can be dust magnets.
- Your decorating style : Is it formal or casual, comfortable or chic? Bold colors can be fun or dramatic.

Actually, this is the ultimate guide to buying blinds. All the necessary requirement has been listed on this post by @kolithad The ball is now on your court. When you go shopping, you will need to choose the brand that fits /checks all these mentioned points. Take a keen look at how they blend in or affect the rest of you furniture, or house set up.
