Blinds or Shades?
Blinds and shades both have a place in my home. I'm a fan of Luxr and have done several installations in a few of my properties, and found the precision corner very useful.
As a general rule of thumb, I install blinds in tall spaces and shades in small spaces. Shades offer a modern-feel, and sometimes an even more intimate setting especially around bath tub windows. Another thing I wanted to say was that I also like to select the colors of my shades/blinds after I finish interior painting during the renovation and help from a designer isn't always a bad idea.
Do you have both blinds/shades in your home or do you exclusively use one or the other? What are some of your favorite manufacturers and styles?
Both have their own utility.
Blinds offer more light control. While Shades offer more privacy. B linds offer more ease of cleaning. Blinds are also more durable, but Shades offer more more variety in design and fabric. Shades also can look rich with lux material.
Shades offer more thermal protection. Also they are more kids friendly.
The choice boils down to your requirement and individual preference.
I like roller shades because they’re a bit better at blocking light/heat and sound. My setup on some windows is roller shades mounted inside the frame
I have never put much thought into this. We only have blinds right now. I haven't thought of using shades. Thanks for the information on them though. We are redoing many rooms and I'll need window treatments for all.
I installed shades for the windows in my doors and blinds for all the others. My door windows aren't deep, so I think shades work better on those. That's how my parents did it too, so maybe I'm just subconsciously following along.
I honestly like both, but I prefer blinds a tad simply because they are more flexible in terms of privacy. With blinds, you have the option of adjusting the angle of the slats to give you the exact ration of light and privacy you want.
Durability wise, blinds have an edge over shades because of the harder materials like wood, vinyl, and metal they are made out of. Another added advantage is the ability of the slats to withstand or resist moisture and humidity and that is probably why they are more suited for highly frequented areas such as bathrooms and playrooms.

That makes the two of us, blinds offers me the privacy I require while at the same they complement the look and the overall design of the house. Matching blinds to internal deco is usually my greatest problem.
About humidity, thanks, that's a new thing I have just learnt from you. I hadn't thought of it that way but completely makes sense.
I deficiently go with Blinds Because with blinds I have option to keep my privacy when I needed or get the sunlight if I want it. Blinds are truly very flexible and easy to install and has very low maintenance plus blinds go with all shades and color matching with room.
Shades!
