Blinds or Shades?

I think it depends on the design of the room. My friend is a fan of blinds and I have to admit that it gives a special luminosity to the room.

I've always struggled with opening and closing blinds, especially the ones that are operated using strings. Even though it seems like it would be simple, I just can't get them to work for me. That's why I go with shades as a general rule.
