What am I doing wrong?
I have a deck that I have to repaint year after year because the paint starts chipping away so quickly. What am I doing wrong? I bought the paint that was recommended by Ace Hardware one year and the one recommended by Home Depot another. Both began chipping away within a few months.
Did you use a primer? The temperature and humidity can affect the paint. If the wood isn't completely dry, that could affect the staying power as well.
I'm not sure why that's happening to you, but if it was me, I'd stop fighting it. If the wood is treated, then it will be okay with some varnish. Strip the paint, varnish the wood, and call it a day.
What I feel is that the paint isn't to be blamed here , you need to make sure if the wood is getting old or not. It might happens when the quality of wood declines with time.
There must be something lacking in the technique that you're applying while painting the deck since you're saying that the paint is recommended by the right person.
