Why with COVID is upgrading your home needed?
Quote from Nancymac on September 4, 2020, 4:34 pmWhat is one of the main things I have learned about life during COVID was the importance of fewer things. Why as with what we have learned about disinfection and cleaning and how objects can retain germs on the surface. The less objects you have out on a shelf or desk the less time you need to clean, it just stays clean.
Having a place for like-minded things you will never have to look for it again, as long as you put it back in the same place. By decluttering and keeping only what is important and the ability to recycle items from one month to another, creates a different atmosphere of the room.
So purchasing a new furnishing is an investment, but before you purchase the new item, you must get rid of the old one. We have a rule in our home, buy something new the old one must go to a new home by recycling or rehoming.
It helps the environment and someone else can make new memories of the old stuff. Remember someone else's trash is another mans treasure.

Quote from William K on September 29, 2020, 9:23 amDisposing of the old stuff, especially furniture, is good practice. Hoarding and keeping junk sometimes is a fire risk. Plus it just uses space that would have otherwise been used for better and more valuable items.

Quote from Tomas on October 10, 2020, 9:12 amDuring the covid I started thinking same. In my opinion the best thing to do when you are buying some new furniture is to sell that old somewhere online. I did that many times during quarantine so you get some money back and with that cheap selling you will make many poor people happy because they would be able to afford that furniture new at the full price. So I think thats the best you can do.

Quote from kolithad on October 10, 2020, 5:08 pmYou can always come with repainting the old furniture, before disposing or buying a new one. Have a unique and colorful color for the wood paint, probably you may have never thought of before. It will save some money, which is meaningful in this Covid situation 😛

I've been meaning to renovate my house for a while now, and I wouldn't call COVID a blessing but it certainly gave me more time to spend at home and think about the renovation.

Quote from ArnieWeaver on October 20, 2020, 3:34 amI think some renovations are probably brought on by the influx of cash due to the stimulus checks and the big push to support local businesses and contractors during these uncertain times. We're being encouraged to help keep the local economy going.

Quote from EmoryB on October 20, 2020, 4:48 amThat's a beautiful color, kolithad! I try to buy solid wood furniture when I'm shopping around since it lasts for generations. Last summer I lucked up and found a solid oak bookcase at my local secondhand shop that just needed to be sanded and repainted. I was thrilled!

Quote from VintageRevamp on October 26, 2020, 5:38 amI'm all about repurposing old furniture and home decor pieces. It doesn't make sense to just chuck it out the door when you can breathe new life into it and make it useful again. I think some of the home upgrades we're seeing is due to the depression of COVID-19. I think retail therapy is to blame.

Quote from samanthaV on October 28, 2020, 11:27 pmI love the idea of repurposing older items. Give your items a face-lift. A little paint goes a long way! I like to make things look old or antique. I also agree that it is a great time to "spruce" up your home.

Quote from kris_cooper on November 13, 2020, 8:18 pmYes , you're right. Old stuff should indeed be loaded off before bringing in new , so that your house doesn't changes into a junkyard.
